I really enjoyed this book because it was a great overview of the topic and really got me excited to begin my own endeavors into creating a homestead. My husband and I just purchased 4.5 acres in December, so it's only encouraged me to imagine all the potential opportunities there are for us to become more self-sufficient. I felt the chapters on gardening and herbs dragged a little, but that's only because I'm not very familiar with growing my own vegetables. There is a plethora of information in those chapters, so I know I'll be referring back to it continuously as I plant my own garden and herb patch. There were times when the directions were a bit unclear, but I'm personally a much better visual learner than I am written. Therefore, this confusion could merely be a result of my own learning preferences. I would highly recommend Carleen Madigan's book to anyone interested in homesteading.
